“In the last year we have received a great deal of publicity for our work with Solar8. But through the years I have conducted many other environmental projects, and it is this overall accomplishment that is recognized here, which is great to hear,” says the recipient Joakim Byström.

October 4 2007, Stockholm
Joakim Byström, visionary and entrepreneur, was awarded this prize for managing to combine his deep commitment to technology, the environment and questions of sustainability with a documented ability to spread his knowledge. “I am thankful and very humbled that I have received the prize this year”, commented Joakim Byström. “Being awarded one of Sweden's most important environmental prizes show that technology, research and entrepreneurship can be combined to create products that can help to make the world a better place.” The prize awards efforts that combine nature conservation with long-term sustainable economic and technological development. This year was the fourteenth time the prize was awarded. Previous winners are listed below. The Jury consists of members from the Board of Directors of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), The Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) and the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise. Joakim Byström's entrepreneurial talents have, among other things, resulted in a solar collector for the combined production of electricity and hot water – an important contribution to the development of sustainable energy solutions. Alongside this work, Joakim has been committed to ”Young Researchers” and has, for instance, taken the initiative to start a training program for solar energy technicians in Härnösand.
