On April 27, 2026, Absolicon announced that the company had been selected as the winning bidder for the project. Following completed negotiations, the parties have now signed the final agreement.
The project includes a 528 m² (370 kW) solar thermal installation for the production of renewable process heat for the brewery. The installation will demonstrate how solar thermal energy can reduce the use of fossil fuels in brewing processes.
The project is part of an international demonstration program for sustainable industrial heat supply and the delivery is planned to be completed during autumn 2026. The solar thermal system will be used to dry malt, one of the main ingredients in beer brewing.
– We are pleased to publicly announce that the customer is Heineken through Athenian Brewery. The Heineken brewing group is one of the industrial players taking the transition away from fossil fuels seriously, says Joakim Byström, CEO of Absolicon.
Absolicon has previously completed installations for both the Carlsberg and Asahi groups through projects in Greece and in Italy. With Heineken, this becomes the third of the world’s largest brewing groups to use Absolicon’s concentrating solar thermal technology in their brewing processes.
